Create Batik Fabric Art @ The Cabarrus Art Guild.
Join instructor Laura Smith at the Cabarrus Art Guild for a new class in the new year! In this class you'll learn how to create custom batik fabric for a quilt, wall hanging, or garment. The batik process generates complex, stitch-able designs with wax resist and color layering on fabric. Wax is applied to fabric with a stamp called a tjap (pronounced "chop"). Several choices of images are offered: turtle (see photo), irises, dragonfly, or butterfly.

Colors are painted in layers alternating with wax. An optional crackling technique produces a marbled effect, it's seen as navy blue background lines in the turtle design above. Finally the piece is ironed to remove the wax and set the paint colors.

Class is Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 10 - 3:00 p.m. Click here for complete details and to register.

The Cabarrus Art Guild is located at 11 Union Street, South, Lower Level 202.
