The North Carolina Chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association will again be holding their annual convention in Concord at the Cabarrus Arena. They will begin their stay with a parade into Downtown Concord on Thursday evening, September 26 around 6:00 PM.

The CDDC is conducting a survey between now and September 28. The survey determines where our customers live, the types of events they enjoy attending, and explores what new businesses they would like to see open in Downtown Concord. The respondents will also share with us how they receive information on upcoming events. Each person who takes the survey will be registered into the September Small Business Saturday drawing for $100 in Downtown Concord Dollars.

New Art Gallery to Open in Downtown Concord this Friday

The Sundae Art Gallery will open above the Cabarrus Creamery, 21 Union Street, South with the kickoff of their "Second Fridays" series 6:00 - 9:00 PM on Friday, June 14. "Eight ways from Sundae" featuring eight artists graduates plus their instructors from the Artist in Residence program of Braitman Studios in Charlotte. The gallery will host new art events the Second Friday of each month. "We want to bring in high quality artists who have "found their voice" but are still selling art that is a great value", said gallery manager Pete Brown. "We will have guest curators to help us in the selection process. Concord and area residents have always enjoyed the downtown Art Walks, sponsored by the Cabarrus Arts Council, which occur on Friday nights five times a year" said Brown. "We wanted to give art lovers the chance to see new art and have an enjoyable evening every month".

Concord Receives Public Recognition as the Winner of the 2013 North Carolina Great Main Street Award

The first Union Street Live Concert last Thursday evening was the perfect venue to officially recognize Downtown Concord as the winner of the 2013 North Carolina Great Main Street Award! Ben Hitchings, President of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association was on hand to present a certificate to Mayor Scott Padgett and members of the Concord City Council. Thank you to everyone who voted for Downtown Concord and helped bring this distinction to our great community.

Concord on Canvas Draws Crowd, Bids

The Concord on Canvas event held Friday, March 15 drew a large, enthusiastic crowd to the Hotel Concord for a fun evening that included food, beverages, music, and silent and live auctions. The highlight of the event was the live auction of twenty-nine paintings, seven created by local professional artists and twenty-two painted by twenty-six high school art students representing eight high schools throughout Cabarrus County. The auction brought in a total of $3625 in bids.
