MEMORIAL GARDENS:
Memorial Garden.....in the heart of historic Concord....a study in serenity and beauty. Three acres of gardens entwined through the 200 year old cemetery of the First Presbyterian Church. One the North Carolina's hidden treasures. Those who discover it are delighted...often making their way back time and time again. Every season brings a new form of beauty.
Spring finds the garden in all its glory....14,000 tulips and bulbs planted each fall to bloom in March and April....Every color and shape in wonderfully creative patterns. Add to that, multitudes of azaleas, dogwoods, and magnificent flowing cherries....plus a generous helping of rare and unusual plants, making this a place of interest for gardeners of all ages.
All this in a setting reminiscent of the Old World....gently sloping hillsides, ancient oaks, stately Magnolias, magnificent multitrunked Japanese Maples....winding paths....rock gardens and waterfalls. A lionshead fountain at one turn, a sundial platform overlooking another. Glades and glens....vistas and views....Quiet benches for resting, pools for reflecting and hummingbirds and butterflies for company. The sight....the sounds....the smells....all part of God's great handiwork....offering a sense of peace to the heart and soul.
Fall and Winter find the garden quieter, but no less intriguing. The rose's last fling....falling red leaves....Camellias bloom....pansies too. Time to pause and reflect.
Come see for yourself the beauty of Memorial Garden, and learn of the history of Cabarrus County and its citizens. The Phiffers, whose generous endowment has maintained the garden, the same family that George Washington visited on his farewell tour of the South. The Barringers, the Allisons, the Whites, and many others....their intricately carved white Italian marble markers with inscriptions and epitaphs that tell the stories of these people and times past.
Come and see ....enjoy and learn....Memorial Garden is a place for everyone who loves beauty and history.
